Carried by Community — Pasifika Mamas Continues

We are delighted to share that Pasifika Mamas is continuing through a new partnership between Tangata Atumotu Trust and Christchurch Methodist Mission (CMM).

Established in November 2022, Pasifika Mamas was developed in response to a recognised gap in culturally grounded support for Pasifika mamas, parents of children who identify as Pasifika, and their pēpi in Ōtautahi. Since its inception, the programme has been hosted by Christchurch Methodist Mission, supporting more than 100 mamas and caregivers and providing a consistent, culturally safe space for connection, learning, and mutual support.

Since March 26th, the programme has been delivered by Tangata Atumotu Trust, strengthening Pacific-led governance and delivery while maintaining the foundations built through Christchurch Methodist Mission’s support. Under this partnership, Pasifika Mamas has been integrated into our Manuiā Community Programmes and will continue to sit under the CMM banner, reflecting shared values and an ongoing commitment to supporting Pasifika whānau.

Pasifika Mamas runs weekly during school terms, offering a culturally safe, holistic support space for Pasifika mamas and parents and caregivers. The programme is co-designed with participants to reflect lived experience and identified needs, using talanoa and shared learning to support connection, culture, and wellbeing.

We are deeply grateful to Christchurch Methodist Mission for their stewardship of Pasifika Mamas since 2022 and for initiating this partnership journey. Together, we remain committed to strengthening the vā between services and communities, and to ensuring mamas and their fānau siʻi (young children) are supported in ways that honour culture, connection, and collective wellbeing.
