Women’s rugby making waves

Linwood Women’s Rugby Team arriving in Sāmoa

We were super proud to see the Linwood wahine rugby team embark on a tour of Samoa in February.

A local team long sponsored by Tangata Atumotu, the 24 wāhine and coaches delivered workshops, clinics and bonding activities for rugby teams in schools and villages across Savai’i and Upolu.

The visit focused on building connections and contributing to the growth of women’s rugby in Samoa. We hear it was also a personally meaningful trip for members, especially those with a whakapapa connection to Samoa.

Team member Sui Pauarisa recalled it as “an amazing, humbling and heartwarming week in the homeland. Not only to inspire our next generation, but also learning and growing together as a family for our Linwood Wahine Rugby Team”

We are so impressed by the leadership shown by these local wāhine, and excited to watch the continual growth of women’s rugby across Aotearoa and in our many Pacific islands.
