Recognising Excellence in Pacific Wellbeing
This past Wednesday, we proudly celebrated a significant milestone for Pacific health and wellbeing in Aotearoa. The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland facilitated a recognition ceremony honouring 25 dedicated students who successfully completed the microcredential course, “Improving Wellbeing Outcomes for Pacific Families.”
Over the past 15 weeks, these graduates have deepened their understanding of the key healthcare challenges facing Pacific communities in Aotearoa. The course, designed specifically for frontline support workers, is the only university programme in the country that navigates the Pacific Whānau Ora model within the healthcare context. This unique approach ensures that cultural values remain at the heart of improving health outcomes for Pacific families.
Importantly, this course was funded by the CPCT Workforce Development Fund under Pegasus Health, reflecting a strong commitment to building capability within the Pacific health workforce.
The graduates represent a diverse group of organisations committed to serving Pacific communities, including:
Tongan Society South Canterbury
Vaka Tautua South Island
West Coast District Health Board
Tangata Atumotu Trust
“This course has given me the confidence to advocate for Pacific families in a way that truly respects our cultural values. It’s more than learning; it’s about making a real difference.”
- Sina Vaele, Whānau Ora Navigator (TAT)
Their achievement reflects not only academic success but also a shared commitment to creating meaningful change in Pacific health and wellbeing. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to each of you. The knowledge and skills gained during this course are just the beginning of a lifelong journey. We know the insights shared will stay with you throughout your healthcare careers, empowering you to make a lasting impact for Pacific families across Aotearoa.
