Our purpose:

Tangata Atumotu is the longest serving Pasifika health and social service provider in the Canterbury region. Over recent times, our staff numbers have grown to meet the demand of our services. Our Trust is governed by a Pasifika Board who are active members of the local Christchurch Pasifika community, with a strong dedication to the health and wellbeing of Pasifika people. We have an extensive, strong, and trusted presence in the local Pasifika community. Our core services address immediate health and social needs as well as social determinants of health.

The role:

Tangata Atumotu is looking to recruit two self-motivated and passionate individuals, both in the roles of Pasifika Youth Wellbeing Liaisons. We have a total of 1.6 FTE available across two roles, with a negotiable FTE allocation. This role will be based in Christchurch.

The Pasifika Youth Wellbeing Liaison will play a central role in supporting Pasifika youth within secondary schools with a strong focus on enhancing mental health literacy, building capability and fostering resilience.  

In this role, you will also engage holistically with families, school staff, and local communities to help create sustainable, long-term improvements in the wellbeing of Pasifika young people.  

Reporting to a Team Lead, you will be the primary point of contact for a designated secondary school, building strong, trust-based relationships and partnering with the school community to identify and respond to well-being needs. Support will be provided through a mix of professional development workshops and supervision for staff, one-on-one engagement with students and families, and group sessions or classroom-based programmes.  

The successful applicant will:

  • Work directly with children, whānau and schools to provide culturally responsive, strengths‑based and evidence‑informed interventions

  • Collaborate closely with colleagues, school staff and community partners to enable positive, measurable outcomes and support children and whānau to thrive and excel.

  • Hold a current NZ driver’s license and be eligible to work in NZ

  • Be expected to promote health practice, including immunisation, and to model health choices.
