Our purpose:

Tangata Atumotu is the longest serving Pasifika health and social service provider in the Canterbury region. Over recent times, our staff numbers have grown to meet the demand of our services. Our Trust is governed by a Pasifika Board who are active members of the local Christchurch Pasifika community, with a strong dedication to the health and wellbeing of Pasifika people. We have an extensive, strong, and trusted presence in the local Pasifika community. Our core services address immediate health and social needs as well as social determinants of health.

The role:

The Pasifika Dementia Co-Ordinator (PDC) role comes from a collaboration between Tangata Atumotu (TAT) and Dementia Canterbury for the implementation of dementia support and navigation services. 

The PDC will provide culturally safe and appropriate support to Pasifika people who have, or are at risk of, dementia, and their whānau, to access the services they require. This will involve the provision of practical support (such as arranging enrolment with a General Medical Practice and transporting client to appointments), as well as referral-based navigation. 

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a passion for working with people with Dementia. Experience in this area would be a bonus

  • Have experience in facilitating educational/support groups.

  • Be committed to promoting equity and reducing health disparities for Pasifika peoples.

  • Have a lived experience or strong understanding of Pasifika cultural values. Fluency in a Pasifika language would be a bonus.

  • Hold a current NZ driver’s license and be eligible to work in NZ.
