Our purpose:

Tangata Atumotu is the longest serving Pasifika health and social service provider in the Canterbury region. Over recent times, our staff numbers have grown to meet the demand of our services. Our Trust is governed by a Pasifika Board who are active members of the local Christchurch Pasifika community, with a strong dedication to the health and wellbeing of Pasifika people. We have an extensive, strong, and trusted presence in the local Pasifika community. Our core services address immediate health and social needs as well as social determinants of health.

The role:

In Samoan culture, 'Malu' represents protection, shelter, and a sense of safety. It signifies the role of providing care and safeguarding wellbeing within the community. The Malu-Kaiāwhina role embodies these values by supporting individuals and families to navigate health and social systems with confidence and dignity.

This role is offered on a fixed-term basis at 0.6 FTE and is based in Christchurch.

The Malu-Kaiāwhina role will provide holistic navigation and support for Pasifika communities, ensuring equitable access to health, wellbeing, and social services. It focuses on removing barriers, coordinating services, and empowering kainga to achieve their health and wellbeing aspirations. The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience in engaging with Pasifika communities. Ability to converse in a Pasifika language would be a bonus.

  • Be willing to advocate for equality with a commitment to helping all people achieve equitable outcomes.

  • Hold a current NZ driver’s licence and eligible to work in NZ.

  • Be expected to promote healthy practice, including immunisation, and to model healthy choices.

  • The ability to converse in a Pacific language would be a bonus
